Open petition: Require licences and safety checks to buy and operate humanoid robots
Created by Livia Berki
Closes on
We want the UK Government to introduce mandatory licences for purchasing, owning and operating humanoid robots, along with independent safety checks, appropriate training and strict regulations to protect the public from accidents, misuse and potential harm, including the risk of sexual assault.
Humanoid robots are becoming more powerful, affordable and accessible to the public. Some are already the size and weight of an adult human. Without proper regulation, they could cause serious injuries or be misused for harassment, sexual assault or violence. I am particularly concerned about the safety of children and vulnerable people. I believe the Government must act before serious incidents occur, ensuring that only trained, licensed individuals can own and operate these machines safely.
