Open petition: Review England’s organ donation opt-out exclusion for under-18s
Created by Isobel Giblin
Closes on
We call for a formal Government review of England’s organ donation opt-out system, which excludes under-18s. We want to explore whether extending the system could help save more children’s lives.
Our son is fighting severe heart disease, and a transplant is his only chance of survival.
We want the Government to assess whether extending opt-out to under-18s could increase paediatric organ donation, whilst still protecting family & children’s wishes.
Children have the longest wait times for transplants (with many not surviving the wait), and every opportunity to save young lives deserves serious consideration. We believe there is no clear reason the opt-out scheme couldn’t extend to u18’s.
