The government must mandate seller ID checks and serial number verification for second-hand power tools at car boot sales and online platforms. Tool theft ruins livelihoods, leaves families unable to pay bills, and severely harms mental health, while stolen items are openly sold for quick cash.

​Tool theft devastates tradespeople. Vans are broken into daily, leaving families unable to pay bills, feed their children, or work, causing severe mental distress. Thieves easily flip stolen tools at boot sales and on social media without checks.

We call on the government to:
Mandate photo ID checks and seller logging at car boot sales. ​
Hold event operators liable for unverified tool sales.
​Require serial numbers on online tool listings.
