Rejected petition: Require the Government to Reform Fixed-Rate Mortgages and Protect Homeowners!
Rejected on
Require the Government to review and reform the UK mortgage system to provide homeowners with greater long-term interest-rate security and protection against unaffordable repayment increases when fixed-rate deals expire.
Homeowners pass strict affordability checks, yet when their fixed mortgage rate expires, repayments can rise dramatically despite no change in their circumstances. Families who have paid every instalment on time can be forced to sell their homes. The Government should reform mortgage rules to provide long-term rate security, protect against sudden repayment increases and let homeowners benefit when interest rates fall.
