Open petition: Ban the use of dogs, ferrets, and lamping for wild animal pest control

Created by Zev Clarke
Closes on

Make ferreting, lamping, and hunting wild mammals with dogs for pest control illegal, mandating the use of licensed, humane deterrence alternatives.

Current legislation permits ferreting, lamping, and using working dogs for pest control, reportedly allowing unmonitored sports-style hunting that subjects wildlife to severe distress and violent deaths. Working animals can also suffer extreme exhaustion and injury while participating in these control culls. However, non-lethal management options such as exclusion fencing and humane deterrence exist. The law should be updated to ban these practices and prioritise humane standards of pest control.
