Rejected petition: Protect & Prioritise Redbridge Cemetery Space for Redbridge Residents

Rejected on

We, the undersigned, call upon the London Borough of Redbridge to take urgent action to protect burial capacity at the Gardens of Peace Muslim Burial Grounds and other cemetery sites serving our borough.

Local cemetery provision is a finite and important community resource. Where cemetery land and infrastructure have been largely funded by local Redbridge residents, the local community should have first call on the limited space available.

Allowing unrestricted burials for people who live outside Redbridge, including those from outside London, places further strain on cemetery space and reducing the long-term availability of graves for local families.
