Make it a criminal offence for elected politicians and public officials to lie whilst in office. Politicians and officials need to be held independently accountable through the law.

Increasingly politicians from no particular party or affiliation and, to a lesser extent public officials, have shown an increasing and repugnant tendency to lie whilst in office; the lies around Brexit being a particularly shocking example. And yet these politicians and officials are never held accountable. It is time to change this so that truth, integrity, and honesty can become the hallmark of UK politics and public debate.
