Rejected petition Protect our landmarks and monuments.

The current BLM riots and protests have created a very emotive and inter racial fragile society. If Sadiq Khan and others alike plough forward in removing, altering or relocating our landmarks and monuments in our Capital and nation at this time, it could well explode in to more riots and conflict.

More details

I feel government could intervene in a diplomatic manner, if pausing for now, any action regarding our landmarks, monuments and ultimately history. I feel if the government intervened with possibly looking at a more democratic way of decisions being made it could well ease the tensions arising regarding this matter.

Decisions about individual historical monuments, statues, plaques and street names are a matter for the local authority in which they are located and private landowners, not the UK Government or Parliament.

If you want to raise concerns about a particular historical monument or statue you should contact your local authority about this.

The Local Government Association has published an advice note to help councils work to ensure all sections of the community feel heard by decision-makers and each other: https://www.local.gov.uk/topics/community-safety/statues
