Rejected petition Preserve the nations history by NOT removing statues or monuments
Rejected on
Preserve the nations history by NOT removing statues or monuments to appease the BLM movement , you learn from history you do not eradicate it .
As a nation we learn from history so we do not repeat mistakes made at that time, you do not eradicate it, would we ask the Egyptians to flatten the pyramids because they were built by slaves, would we ask the Italians to pull down the colosseum because of the thousands of Christians killed there and would we ask Poland to remove auschwitz because it highlighted the millions of Jews murdered in WW2, the answer is no and neither should the British people be asked to remove statues or monuments.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
Decisions about individual historical monuments, statues, plaques and street names are a matter for the local authority in which they are located and private landowners, not the UK Government or Parliament.
If you want to raise concerns about a particular historical monument or statue you should contact your local authority about this.
The Local Government Association has published an advice note to help councils work to ensure all sections of the community feel heard by decision-makers and each other: https://www.local.gov.uk/topics/community-safety/statues
