Rejected petition Increase Taxes for the Top 1% of UK Taxpayers

Rejected on

Raise Income Tax from 45% to 46% for the
310,000 individuals in this Tax bracket.

A recent Report by the Department of Fiscal Studies has summarised :
In the top 1% of income tax payers in the UK (i.e. to be among the 310,000 individuals with the highest income), a taxable income of at least £160,000 is required. £236,000 is required to be in the top 0.5% and nearly £650,000 to be in the top 0.1%.

This number of individuals are the highest earners in the UK. This elite segment of our society can more easily afford this additional burden to assist the less well off.
All monies raised from the increase should be “ring fenced” and paid to NHS workers/ Nurses to supplement the Government’s proposed 1% pay rise.
