Rejected petition Protect children from online porn.
Rejected on
In light of revelations of the "rape culture" in our schools the Government must implement immediately Part 3 of the Digital Economy Act 2017. This requires online publishers of porn to prevent minors from accessing material designed to sexually arouse adults.
A Government-commissioned study published in 2020 found "evidence of an influential relationship between use of pornography and harmful sexual attitudes and behaviours towards women".
In 2019, a British Board of Film Classification survey found that 51% of 11- to 13-year-olds had seen online pornography, rising to 66% of 14- to 15-year-olds.
Publishers must accept their responsibilities and penalties significant even for multi-billion-dollar companies which fail to meet them.
