Rejected petition An easier system for parents who are being refused access to their children

Introduce a financial penalty for parents who unreasonably withhold contact of children.

Introduce an easier system that reduces the time a child could be without contact and reduces the financial burden on the other parent to take the matter to court.

More details

Men are being stopped from seeing their children and this has a significant impact on their mental health with some even committing suicide. They do not have the financial resources to pursue the matter through the courts and are therefore faced with no other options of seeing their children.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We understand you're concerned about parent's right to access to their child, however we're not clear what specific steps you want the Government to take to 'reduce the time a child could be without contact' and 'reduce the financial burden on the other parent to take the matter to court.'

In any case, it is already the case that parents can be fined for refusing to grant access to their child, under certain circumstances, so it's not clear how you want the law to change.
