Studies in animals and humans demonstrate that elevated maternal IL-6 levels during pregnancy, not infection per se, can be is associated with adverse neurodevelopmental changes in offspring. Maternal vaccination policies should fully account for these known biological effects, reflect the latest scientific evidence, and adopt a precautionary approach to protect foetal health.
