Rejected petition Create Lilo’s Law to require reporting after hitting pets

Introduce legislation known as “Lilo’s Law” to require drivers to stop and report when they hit a domestic pet, including cats, and to make it an offence to leave an injured or deceased animal on the road without reporting it.

More details

There is currently no legal requirement for drivers to stop or report collisions involving domestic pets such as cats. As a result, injured or deceased animals can be left on the road, causing unnecessary suffering and distress for both animals and their owners.

Introducing a legal duty to stop and report would improve animal welfare, encourage responsible driving, and give families clarity and closure when incidents occur
