Open petition: Review impact of scrapping LISA for disabled savers, retain equivalent option

Created by Nelson Alfonso
Closes on

Carry out and publish an equality impact assessment and review the impact on disabled savers, before removing retirement saving option from the Lifetime ISA in 2028. We also call for an equivalent, tax-advantaged retirement saving option with Government bonus to be retained for those who rely on it.

Disability is protected under the Equality Act 2010. In our view, for people whose conditions affect impulse control or deferring reward, an automatic, structured account is a reasonable adjustment, not a preference. The Lifetime ISA's bonused retirement route is being scrapped for first-time buyers only. Disabled people, who may be less likely to have a workplace pension, can lose it disproportionately. Under the Public Sector Equality Duty, we ask the Government to assess this impact and keep an equivalent option.
