Open petition: Require MPs & Ministers to complete annual CPD& role-specific training
Created by Jason Corbett
Closes on
Require all MPs and Ministers to complete independently administered induction and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) annually, with pass rates published. Ministers should also pass role-specific training when appointed, with their CPD and individual assessment results published annually.
MPs make laws requiring many professionals to be qualified, trained and able to prove their knowledge is current. Yet, we feel MPs face no equivalent mandatory training or annual CPD once elected. Anyone should be free to stand for Parliament. Our proposal is about what happens afterwards.
At a time of low public trust, we believe MPs should show they understand their responsibilities and keep developing the skills needed to serve the public. We feel standards should apply to those who govern and not just those who are governed.
