Rejected petition: Require employers to notify all interviewed job candidates of the outcome

Rejected on

Require employers to inform all interviewed job candidates of the outcome. Candidates who complete interviews, assessments, work trial days or take-home tasks are often never contacted again. We want a legal duty on employers to notify these candidates of the hiring decision within a set period.

Jobseekers invest hours in interviews, assessments and unpaid take-home tasks, then hear nothing. This indefinite silence harms mental health and wastes time that could be spent on other opportunities. Ontario, Canada already requires employers to inform interviewed candidates of the outcome within 45 days, proving this is workable law. Modern recruitment software makes notifying candidates effortless for employers. Employers should also be encouraged to give brief feedback where possible.
