Open petition: Speed up the law to allow hybrid attendance by councillors at council meetings
Created by Ivan Ambrose
Closes on
I believe there has not been enough progress by the Government in facilitating hybrid attendance by councillors at council meetings. I believe facilitating such attendance would provide a perfect opportunity to enable a wider range of people to put themselves forward as candidates to be councillors.
In June 2025 the Government said it would do this. I think that there are still so many people with all of the necessary talents who are currently locked out of being councillors. I believe there is no urgency at the moment with regards to the timescale to bring in these changes. I think a perfectly reasonable timescale would be to ensure hybrid attendance of councillors is implemented at least six months before next year’s local elections. This should be priority for the Government and Parliament.
