Open petition: Protect UK citizens’ living in the EU right to home fee status & loan access
Created by MR EDWARD J HOSKIN
Closes on
We call on the Government to scrap plans to remove university home fee status and student loan access from British citizens living in the EU from 2028. This could financially discourage EU-based UK citizens from studying in the UK. Often, one or both parents have paid into the UK tax system.
I am one of many bi-national families living in Europe and I am thinking about our childrens' futures. I feel it is unfair that UK citizens living in the EU shouldn’t have the same opportunity to send their children to UK universities, as those living in the UK.
Often, families are in the EU because one, or both parents are on temporary relocation (3-5 years or more). Potential students who are British nationals and are living in the EU are often bilingual and could be excellent additions to the UK universities.
