Open petition: Conduct review of use of wildlife warning signs on UK roads

We want the Government to consider a review of how wildlife road-casualty hotspots are identified and the process for installing appropriate wildlife warning signs and other measures to reduce animals being killed or injured on roads.

Every year, large numbers of wild animals are killed or injured on Britain’s roads. Road traffic is a significant and largely preventable threat to wildlife, particularly where roads cross established wildlife corridors, habitats and migration routes. The Government already provides warning signs for wild animals, small wild animals and migratory toad crossings. However, we are concerned that the use of wildlife warning signs is inconsistent, and many roads where animals regularly cross have no warning to motorists. A review is therefore needed.
