Open petition: Fund & mandate full examination of cervical screening samples every 2-3 years
Created by Lucy Convelly

I call on the Government to fund and mandate all cervical samples from cervical screening tests to be examined for abnormal cells - — not only those that test HPV positive. Tests should be required every 2–3 years, or sooner if needed.
Not all cervical cell changes or cancers are HPV related. We feel relying only on HPV testing removes a vital safety net, puts people with a history of abnormal cells at risk and ignores evidence that HPV negative disease exists.
We want to mandate the examination of all cervical samples, so they are checked for abnormal cells, not just those that are HPV-positive. We also want routine tests to happen every 2-3 years instead of automatic 5-year screening interval for HPV-negative individuals. Testing and examinations should be based on inclusive, evidence based care that protects everyone, not just average cases.
