Require landlords of older rented properties to check for lead water pipes. Where lead pipes are found, landlords must regularly test drinking water for lead, give tenants the results, and take action if levels are elevated.

Many older UK properties still have lead water pipes. Tenants may live there for years without knowing lead pipes are present or whether lead is entering their drinking water.

Landlords should check for lead pipes instead of leaving tenants to discover them by chance. Where lead pipes are found, tenants should be informed and given regular water test results. Lead pipes should ultimately be replaced. Until then, identifying them and testing the water would help protect tenants and their families.
