Open More police powers to restrict intimidating protests near asylum accommodation

We want the UK Government to amend the Public Order Act 1986 to give police specific powers to impose conditions on protests near accommodation housing asylum seekers, where they reasonably believe a protest may intimidate residents and thereby deter them from safely entering or leaving.

Specifically, we want sections 12, 14 and 14ZA amended. Section 164 of the Crime and Policing Act 2026 introduced similar protections for protests near places of worship. We believe this should extend to asylum accommodation. Whatever someone’s views on asylum and immigration policy, we feel that asylum seekers should be able to enter and leave where they live without intimidation from protests immediately outside. They are not responsible for asylum policy and generally have no choice over where they are housed.
