Open petition: Make protective motorcycle clothing a legal requirement

Created by Mr TC Gallimore Barker
Closes on

We want the Government to make the wearing of protective safety equipment for the body as important as wearing a helmet by making it a legal requirement for motorcyclists. We believe this is about saving lives.

By signing this petition, you can help us call on the Government to do the right thing, by protecting some of the most vulnerable road-users in the country. In 2019, 336 bikers were killed in the UK. My father was one. Since then I have watched my family battle with the consequences of losing him, and it's not something I want others to face.

The current law is firm about the wearing of motorcycle helmets but this isn't the case for other forms of safety equipment, although studies show such equipment can reduce the risk of and severity of injuries. We want to close this loophole in our laws, and make 'dressing for the slide and not the ride' a legal need.
