Open petition: Local Councillors to be limited to represent one council only
Created by Nicholas Charles Heath
Closes on
Change the law to prevent local councillors from being elected & sitting on more than one council. We believe this would immediately remove any conflict of interest & ensure that councillors' time is devoted to just one ward - an exception being to also sit as a Borough Councillor for the same ward.
There are a number of local councillors who sit on more than one local council. We believe this, by definition, must produce a conflict of interest and, as such, cannot result in a councillor who is 100% committed to a specific council. It could also be viewed by some as a political power grab resulting in a councillor who has to decide how much time and effort they allocate to one specific council over another. We feel that residents should be able to cast their vote for candidates knowing they represent them and only them.
