Open petition: Compensate UK citizens affected by 9-month carry over passport rule

Created by Paul Eccles
Closes on

Compensate affected UK citizens unable to travel/lost money despite passports expiry dates being valid due to the Government’s decision to carry over months from previous passports, whilst EU/Schengen rules stipulate that a passport can only be valid for 10 years from issuing.

Until 2018 UK passport rules were to carry over additional months from previous passports, which would lead to a passport being valid for more than 10 years. However, EU/Schengen Area countries do not allow travel on a passport if it is more than 10 years since it was issued. In our experience, this has, and continues to have, daily impact on hundreds of UK citizens who have been turned away at Airports and lost their money. Many have and continue to be unable to claim back from insurance companies, credit cards or Airlines. Millions may continue to be impacted by this.
