Rejected petition: Require public parks to have secure perimeter fencing and child-safe gates

Rejected on

We call the Government to introduce national requirements for public parks and recreational green spaces to have appropriate perimeter fencing and secure, child-safe gates where this is necessary to protect children, particularly where parks are located next to roads, waterways or other hazards.

Children should be able to play in public parks in a safe environment.

We want the Government to introduce national requirements for public parks to have appropriate perimeter fencing and secure, child-safe gates. Parks should have appropriate safety measures based on their location, layout and the risks present. We believe that secure boundaries and child-safe gates can help prevent young children from accidentally leaving a play area and entering nearby hazards.
