Rejected petition: Mandatory fencing and childproof gates for all public playgrounds
Rejected on
We call on the government to introduce legislation making it a statutory requirement for all publicly accessible playgrounds to be fully enclosed by childproof safety fencing and gates.
Playgrounds should be a safe space for children to play, socialise and learn. However, playgrounds make supervising a child more difficult due to children running around and playing on equipment that can block carers' view. This puts children at a higher risk of leaving the designated play area and running into danger. This makes the playground unsafe for children who elope, including those with additional needs, reducing accessibility and diversity in the community space.
