Rejected petition Ban the extraction and use of peat in the UK
Peat grows so slowly that it's essentially non-renewable.
It's a really important carbon sink, but it's used as heating fuel, which produces pollution and CO2.
It's used in gardening, but renewable and byproduct alternatives are available.
Outlaw peat extraction and use in the UK.

Peatlands are the largest natural terrestrial carbon store, and damaged peatlands are a major source of greenhouse gas emissions: https://www.iucn.org/resources/issues-briefs/peatlands-and-climate-change
