Rejected petition: Introduce measures to reduce petrol and diesel prices at UK fuel pumps
Rejected on
We want the Government to introduce measures to reduce petrol and diesel prices, including reviewing fuel duty and VAT on road fuel, strengthening fuel-price transparency and competition, and ensuring tax or wholesale-price reductions are passed on to motorists at the pump.
Motorists are facing rapidly rising fuel costs.
In Stafford, recent advertised prices have ranged from 171.7p to 199.9p per litre for E10 petrol, 181.9p to 218.9p for E5, 197.7p to 217.9p for B5 diesel, and 219.7p to 236.9p for premium diesel, including prices at motorway services.
At these prices, a 50-litre fill can cost almost £100 for E10 and around £118 for premium diesel. A 70-litre diesel fill can cost over £165.
Fuel costs affect not only private motorists but also workers, carers, families, tradespeople, delivery businesses, taxis, buses and haulage.
We believe the Government should review fuel taxation and competition and consider measures that provide motorists with meaningful relief when pump prices rise substantially.
