   The government responded on 10 February 2026

   The government prefers all animals to be stunned before slaughter. The law established in 1933 respects the rights of Jews and Muslims to eat meat prepared in accordance with their religious beliefs.

2. By-elections to be called automatically when MPs defect to another party

   The government responded on 10 February 2026

   There are no plans to make changes to the current constitutional arrangements, whereby voters elect individual candidates, and not the political party they represent.

3. Government apology and compensation for 1950s Women affected by pension changes

   The government responded on 9 February 2026

   We apologised for not sending State Pension age letters sooner. Deciding not to pay compensation and the Ombudsman’s report relate to that, not the petition’s “hardship...caused by pension changes”.
